For over 30 years, Isaiah Sheffer’s wit, creativity, and passion allowed new ideas to flourish into what are now signature Symphony Space programs like Wall to Wall and Selected Shorts.

Isaiah asked me to perform in the Thalia Follies, saying that I’d be a “perfect MITT ROMNEY.” Hmmm, but that’s not the story I want to share. The day before I started rehearsal, Isaiah and I stood quietly in the empty seats at Symphony Space and he described what the place looked like when he first saw it. “A bombed out leaky-roofed disaster”, he said. I asked him as one founder to another how it felt to know that he had created a magnificent place and institution. “Good,” he said, “I never thought we’d do it and I never doubted it.” I’m still scratching my head over that one.
